Bharatram Muralidharan

I've been thinking about this for a while but never really acted on it. I've discussed it with a few people from my batch but wanted to see if you thought the idea was viable before moving forward with it.
Essentially, what we would like to do is create a platform where students in chemical engineering can talk to other alumni who are in a multitude of industries and with a very large global presence.
The idea came about by thinking, " if I had half the knowledge I have through experience now back during college, would I have done anything differently ?" The truth is , we never received a great amount of support or advice from our seniors, and our batch is guilty of the same. I was hoping we could change that by creating a space where all these people with various experiences help students , in particular second and third year.. generate ideas and thoughts of their own to help stimulate and nurture their ambitions and goals so that when they graduate or are close to graduation, they have the necessary tools to make a decision based on what they like, and not on what will give them the best return on investment.
Our team will not give advice in terms of career choices and things like that, but assist in their thought process, we also wanted to double up and help students when it comes to applying for internships, masters / phd programs or jobs .. locally or abroad.

I think it will be highly beneficial especially for our chemical department in manipal because we ALL have the exact same background. We'd like to show the different avenues that are possible.
We have people in our batch who live in America, Australia, Middle East, India, Singapore, Europe who are in so many industries. I feel like we can help make a difference and provide information outside of what their core curriculum is.

This is of course just a small portion of it, we will definitely need the support of the faculty and labs alike to help make this a reality. The vision could also be two-fold. For example, the departments elective offerings could be dynamic and stem from feedback students give on their overall interests and information from what they have learned.
We could also work with the faculty members willing to identify potential for research projects and alike.

This is a very broad outline of what I was thinking, I would like to prepare a formalized draft answering some very obvious questions and hopefully set a basis for what will be a very good offering to our students and promote chemical engineering itself.

With your blessings we'd like to start this coming this new semester with 2nd years to promote thinking in specific industries and 3rd years to help them prepare and think of different avenues for their next steps after graduation.

Let me know what you think of the idea, and how best you think we can implement this.

Thank you for listening to my idea and hopefully we can work together on it to enhance both the college experience and the personal experience of all chemical engineers in the department now and down the line.
