About the Topic:
The trend in medical device design and manufacturing is toward smaller, more portable products that require more advanced components, manufacturing technologies and automation techniques. Medical products covering the range of patient monitors, drug delivery systems, therapeutic devices, and life assist devices all are lessening in size while increasing in performance and features.
Wearable and even implantable devices that monitor, administer, treat and track patient conditions are increasingly common replacements to large, complex instruments that up until recently only a physician or technician would typically use. Wearable connected devices are becoming ubiquitous, and the popularity of fitness trackers is a major driver of this growth.
This talk focuses on the challenges associated with design of such medical devices with examples of different form factors and complexities.
About the Speaker:
Mohan obtained his Doctorate in EEE (with Biomedical Specialization) from Imperial College London in the domain of ‘Ultra Low Power Wearable Systems’. He has about 25+ years of experience in the Biomedical, Semiconductor & Healthcare industries.
Mohan has worked extensively in product innovation ranging from Consumer to Healthcare Technologies. Most recently, he led a team at Philips Healthcare to launch a low-cost, portable ECG for emerging markets like India.
Mohan currently serves as a Country Head (India) for Wearable Technologies (AG). Earlier, he was Vice President of Strategic Business at MegaChips Corporation where he focused on IoT devices for Healthcare and Smart grids.
Mohan works on several innovations involving Wearables, Hearables, VR/AR and next generation eTextiles specific to Sports & Healthcare.
As part of his volunteering work, Mohan is also an active member of the IEEE SIG on Communications Disability that supports technology development for the Speech & Hearing Impaired, Visually Challenged & other communication disorders. He is the Working Group Chair for an IEEE New Standard P2650: Pre-Screening Audiometric Systems and drives an Industry Connect programme on PLC Test Beds in India.

Call for Abstract- SCHEMCON 2018 @ Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (26-27th Oct-2018)
We are pleased to inform you that Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai is hosting the prestigious event of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), SCHEMCON 2018 jointly with the annual event of ICT, Mumbai, VORTEX 2018 from 26-29th October 2018. The event is jointly organized by Department of Chemical Engineering, ICT, IIChE Mumbai Regional Centre and Technological Association of ICT, Mumbai.
The main objectives of the event SCHEMCON-2018 is to interact, learn and gain exposure to the expanding arena of Chemical Engineering. Participating in Schemcon-2018 will give exposure to the brand ICT and allow networking with some of top academicians and industrialists. The theme for this year’s event is “Green and Sustainable Chemical Engineering”. VORTEX is ICT’s annual technical festival combining a wide array of fields such as Chemical Engineering, Polymers and Coatings, Dyes, Oils, Foods, Pharmacy and Pharma Technology, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences, Business, Management, Advertisement and fun general events.

The interested students and young faculty (< 5 years of starting) of Manipal Academy of Higher Education are hereby requested to fill a common application form for the Stanford NeoDesign- MAHE Manipal collaboration.

Using this application you may apply for one or all the following activities. Only online applications will be accepted. Please see attached PDF for the questions you will see in the online application. We strongly recommend that you have the answers prepared before you open the online application.

2. Stanford Hackathon at Stanford, CA in early November 2018 (Date: to be finalized). Airfare/Stay will be covered. Student responsible for visa & paperwork.
Eligibility: MAHE Students only
Final selection by July 31, 2018
3. Collaborative team based research projects. (August 2018 - March 2019). Up to INR 50,000 per team.
Eligibility: MAHE team must have 1 student and 1 junior faculty

Short term program at Indonesia - INVENT 2018
A consortium collaborative program is being co-organized by three Indonesian universities – (Universitas Indonsia, Universitas Parahyangan and Universitas Widya Mandala Surabaya). 4 students from multi-study background are invited to participate in this consortium accompanied by one staff from the International Office.
Attached is the brochure and program schedule for your perusal. while there is no program fee and accommodation fee charged for the students and staff, they will be responsible for their international flights and other personal expenses outside the program slot. 4 students will be shortlisted for the program by a committee formed by the Office of the Associate Director (Alumni, P & International Relations).

Swacch Bharath Students Internships
Dear Sir/ Madam,
In view of the notification received from AICTE related to Swachh Bharat Summer Internship programme, all the engineering students are required to complete 100 hours of internship pertaining to Swachh Bharat. This internship falls under one of the components of the ‘AICTE Activity Program for Community Service & Allied Activities’.
As a response to the MHRD, India notification dated 11 May, 2018 on MIT Student Council Page, about 50 students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), MAHE have registered on the portal for internship. However, the latest AICTE notifications dated 21 and 23 May 2018 (attached to the mail) make it mandatory for every student to carry out 100 hours internship related to Swachh Bharat during this vacation and submit a report on it to the faculty mentor assigned, and also upload it on the portal.
In this context, you are requested to assign faculty mentors to the students who have completed IV and VI semester in MIT, MAHE. Kindly assign a faculty mentor to every 20 students (based on Roll numbers) of the department. In addition, the departments are requested to send the list of faculty mentors to the respective class representatives (CRs). The CRs in turn will inform the students of their class.
Further, we request the faculty mentors to ensure that all the assigned IV and VI semester students register for the internship by logging on tohttps://sbsi.mygov.in. on or before 15 June 2018.
Kindly treat this as an important matter and complete the process.
