Since the drafting of the curriculum for a 4-year BE course in Biotechnology in 2001, the department of Biotechnology Engineering at Sir MVIT has relentlessly worked towards addressing issues concerning career prospects, job scenario, entrepreneurial opportunities etc., through select programs, seminars, conferences, and workshops. The highlights of the event include Invited Plenary Talks by Subject Experts, Panel discussions sessions, Industry-Academia interactive sessions, Poster sessions, Project idea Presentations, Stalls & Displays, Cash Award to Best Presentations, Networking etc.

Indian Biological Engineering Competition



Dear All,

Please find the Indian Biological Engineering Competition by the Department of Biotechnology

Purpose

This competition is to encourage and support student teams from India to participate in the world-wide synthetic biology competition, the iGEM [international Genetically Engineered Machine]

Competition details
  • Research Concepts invited to build genetically engineered systems using standard interchangeable parts (promoters, terminators, plasmid backbone, reporter elements etc.) and operate them in living system.
  • The cells so produced should exhibit novel and salient properties for potential applications.

Who can apply?
Undergraduate and postgraduate students teams (maximum 10) along with a mentor with credible experience in synthetic biology.
Selection criteria

  • Non-obviousness and potential applications emerging from the proposed concept of the engineered systems
  • Rational design of biological components that include construction of standard parts (DNA, RNA, Protein), devices (modules e.g. operon, transcription factor complex) and circuits (pathways/networks).
  • Standards molecular biology studies that do not map to the rational design approach will not be selected.
Upto five selected teams will be supported to register their research idea for submission to the iGEM competition

NIRF 2017 - Public Perception Survey



Dear Sir / Madam,

Greetings from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal..!!
The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), a premier technical institute in the country established in the year 1957 is currently a constituent institution of the Manipal University, Manipal, India. The Institute is participating in National Institutional Ranking Framework NIRF, an initiative to rank all AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approved institutes in the country by Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India from the year 2016. MIT was ranked 39 in the year 2016 NIRF ranking among other premier engineering institutes pan India.

MIT is participating in NIRF 2017 and submitted all the required data. For ranking process, one of the parameters needed is a perception about the Institute in various areas of its functioning, which is captured through public survey.

We kindly request you to spare your valuable time and effort to respond to this important perception survey which will help the Institute to get a proper and comprehensive rating from the concerned authorities. It is required that the Public Perception Survey has to be completed at the earliest.

Date: 1st February 2017 to 15th February 2017 till 5 pm through the NIRF web portal.

Last year we’ve had this request for Summer Program from University of British Columbia for the Vancouver Summer Program (VSP). Three students from MIT had been a part of this program and have given excellent feedback about their experiences at the VSP.

We are pleased to inform you that UBC has now opened up applications for 2017 and the same is being forwarded to you representatives for dissemination among your students. You may discuss the same with your Institution Head. Kindly go through the program details and the attachments enclosed before you have them displayed on the Notice Board.

We are pleased to invite your students to participate in the 2017 UBC Vancouver Summer Program (VSP). The VSP is a 4-week academic program offered by UBC for students from cooperating universities to study at our Vancouver campus. This program provides the opportunity for students to take 2 academic courses in various UBC Faculties, while being exposed to Canadian practices and culture. In 2016, the UBC Vancouver Summer Program was well received by nearly 2000 students from over 165 different universities with very positive feedback.

Cost: $4750 Canadian dollars (includes tuition, materials, accommodation, medical insurance, airport transfer, city tour, orientation and farewell, and other social and cultural events)

English proficiency test scores are not required. However, students should be proficient in English and have a strong academic background. They should also meet their university’s system of application and eligibility requirements (if any) for studying abroad and possess the personal maturity to undertake an international experience. If possible, we would be grateful if universities could help screen students for their suitability to take the VSP. Academic credits for the courses may be granted by the students’ home university at its discretion. Students will join participants from other universities to study the same package.

We encourage students to register early in order for them to secure their package preference. In the case where there are a total of 24 or more participants from your home university, you are welcomed to send a chaperone or administrator with the group. The chaperone will be provided with accommodation and medical insurance, and is welcomed to participate in any of the activities involved in the program.

The VSP is an amazing opportunity to enhance your students’ learning experiences with an international study abroad experience. Your assistance in promoting the VSP to your students would be greatly appreciated.

T.I.M.E Orientation on CAT puzzles


We at T.I.M.E, in association with Manipal University takes pleasure in inviting students for Orientation on CAT and simple technique's to solve CAT puzzles followed by sample test which not only improves speed in approaching but also familiarity in most likely questions in the Actual examinations. This exercise is planned on 19th Jan at 5.30PM in NLH-103,104 to impart knowledge where students can use the platform to raise queries on other competitive exams such as MAT/XAT/GRE/GMAT and GATE as the speaker is the faculty member in quantitative aptitude with an experience over 15 years and taken seminars for engineering UG's. Anveshan, Students Research Convention


Manipal University, is happy to participate in Anveshan, Students Research Convention organized by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. The south zone convention for the current year is scheduled to be held on February 14 – 15, 2017 at Tumkur University, Tumkur.

To enable students of Manipal University to take part in this annual event, preliminary screening of projects would be conducted at MIT Campus on January 20, 2017.

The student projects could be presented either in the form of live demonstration/models/posters/podium (oral) presentation under the following categories:
  • Agriculture
  • Basic Sciences
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Health Sciences and Allied Subjects, Pharmacy, Nutrition etc.
  • Social Sciences, Humanities, Commerce and Law (Objective and Result Oriented Projects) 
The participating students can submit the projects either as individuals or a group (maximum of three per group)
In order to be eligible the candidate has to be a Bonafide Fulltime Student doing Undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral degree, below 30 years of age.

The student nominations may be forwarded through the Head of the Institution to Dr. Raviraj Adhikari at ravi.adhikari@manipal.edu and a copy to dor@learner.manipal.edu on or before Jan 15, 2017.

Invitation for participation by students in a contest for “Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor Innovation Awards 2016 (PPTIA 2016)




I have great pleasure to inform you that SCMS School of Engineering & Technology, Cochin is organizing this year's Anuual “Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor Innovation Awards” during the month of February 2017. Our objective is to recognize the best new socially relevant and commercially viable innovative ideas. As usual we are holding a competition to identify successful entrepreneurial venture. This innovation award is instituted in the name of Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor, the Vice Chairman of SCMS Group of Educational Institutions who met with a fatal accident in November 2014. He was a great thinker and innovator and has been ably guiding notable achievements of SCMS in the field of research and development.

Competition will be conducted in two categories - School Level and College Level. This is a wonderful opportunity for young minds to showcase their innovative ideas and win prizes.

· Ideas to be submitted by 30th December, 2016 at www.pptinnovationawards.in

· The final event for the Award will be held on 10-11, February, 2017.

The prize money for the College level is: Rs.100, 000/- (Winner) and Rs.50, 000/- (Runner-up), and for the School Level is Rs.50, 000/- (Winner) and Rs.25,000/- (Runner-up). An assured prize money of Rs. 10,000/- each will be granted for rest of the finalists.

The first edition of PPTIA titled “PPTIA 2015” attracted 456 registrations and 125 submissions. Based on feasibility, novelty and social relevance of the ideas, 15 semi-finalists from the two categories (College and School) were selected and given opportunity to exhibit their ideas/products before public, technical experts and invited members from industries.

SSET is ranked as a top engineering college in India by various assessing agencies.
